SEWN: A Moneta LBD

It’s about darn time that I have something to show you that I’ve sewn! And also my new hair cause of course I changed it AGAIN. 🙂

full front

I started this dress in 2015…in the BEGINNING of 2015. Here we are in March…

I finished this dress sometime in January after working on it very sporadically over almost a year. And now with more free time and my cousin taking pictures for me, I can share it with all of you!! ( and all my awkward hand poses and faces yay!)

The pattern I used was the Moneta dress from Collete patterns, which my lovely friend Rachel at Sew RED-y inspired me to try! She’s literally made 6 of them and each one is more lovely than the last! It’s a knit dress pattern with a few different sleeve options, a boat neckline that scoops a little lower in the back, and even a free downloadable pack of collars to customize it even further! AND…AAAND it has pockets. HALLLELUEAAAHHH.

full front pocket

The fabric is a silky, soft bamboo jersey knit from Girl Charlee, but it seems they don’t sell it anymore! I also bought some of their combed cotton jersey and they are similar weight, stretch and feel, not sure how it sews up compared to the bamboo jersey though.
I’ve tried sewing with super soft, fine knits before and it was just a disaster haha! But the bamboo jersey, though it is lightweight, sewed up AMAZINGLY. The only thing I will say that isn’t my favorite is it’s a little see-through…so maybe I should have lined it or wear something underneath. But I didn’t for the photos…MEH.

full back

ANOTHER great thing about this pattern is that it has plus sizes up to 3x! I cut a size XL last year and then gained a few extra pounds…so it’s a little tight. I’m lucky the fabric is stretchy to accommodate my larger areas…*ahem boobs* and I think that’s why it’s a little see-through too…cause of how much the fabric is having to stretch. NEXT TIME I’m going to do the 1x size and it should be more comfy cause it won’t be as tight!

front close up back close up

This was my second time using a twin needle to finish all the hems for a knit project…BUT it’s the first SUCCESSFUL time so I’m super proud of that!!

This was the first time I’ve used clear elastic to gather knit fabric together and even though it was a little tricky to keep the gathering even, I totally love this technique! I love that the elastic is in the dress and keeps the waist were it needs to be. It’s very secure and it’s flattering I think!

Besides that, there’s not much I would change about it! I do think I want to experiment with changing up the neckline, because even though I like how the back scoops down and is super classy and vintage feeling…it also is annoying because my undergarments like to peek out. And usually I don’t like having to fidget and constantly worry that my under thangs are showin’.

And on that note…I’ll leave you with some of my awkward poses because this is just the best it’s gonna get hahahaah

derp awkward

You’re welcome ❤

What do you think of this dress?! I totally recommend you try this pattern if you’re wanting to try sewing knits! Everyone needs a good knit dress.

What have you sewn or crafted recently? post a link so I can see it!

Brave Love Blog

four / my many passions

The Blog-tember challenge is a fun, daily blogging challenge created by the
lovely Bailey Jean of Brave Love blog.
Today is DAY FOUR: What are you passionate about?

I touched a little on a lot of my passions on day one of this challenge when I introduced myself to all of ya’ll. Feel free to check that post out and my post from last year on this topic from Blog-tember!

I am passionate about…

my family.
Family is the most important thing to me ever! My side of the family, my husbands side of the family, and mine and my husband’s little family. We don’t have kids yet, but we totally want to have kids. That is one of my main goals in life that I am super passionate about.

learning new things.
It doesn’t even really matter what I learn about…as long as it semi-interests me I just love learning EVERYTHING about it. Like with sewing…I research and look up tutorials constantly!! The same with hair and makeup products, new styles…I just super love learning.

helping, inspiring, and teaching.
On the flip side, I absolutely love helping others learn new things. When people learn, they get inspired and that just makes people feel really good! It’s so incredible to see when people learn something and have an AHA moment or they make/do something themselves that they learned about and then they get SO EXCITED and they feel like they can rule the world!!!

creating things.
I have been making things since I was super little…there was always a craft (or CRAFTS more realistically, cause I get so distracted) that I was working on. Creating gives me such pride in myself. Like, I MADE THIS. WITH MY BARE HANDS. I think the world now-a-days is so busy and you can always buy something already made pretty inexpensively, that a lot of people don’t take time to DIY. It’s so great guys! please just try making something! I swear you will feel so great about yourself!

fantasy things.
I love Disney, Marvel, Harry Potter, and soooo much more. I love the world of fantasy! and I really love cosplaying. I’ve only made like 2 costumes in my life, but I made this crazy amazing Maleficent costume last halloween and it was so amazing. And then I wore it to a convention (like comic con) and I got to play this character and take lots of photos with people and kiddos, and I made lots of friends! It was so amazing!

making people feel amazing.
I really love helping people feel great about themselves.
YOU ARE AN AMAZING PERSON. AND YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL EXACTLY HOW YOU ARE. I feel so lucky I get to make people feel good about themselves with my job as a hairdresser. I know it’s so small, just cutting, coloring or styling, but I really do know that I’m helping my clients feel good about themselves.
It makes me feel good about myself!

What are you passionate about?

Brave Love Blog

one / introduce yourself

The blog-tember challenge is a fun, daily blogging challenge created by the
lovely Bailey Jean of Brave Love blog. Today is DAY ONE: Introduce yourself however you like! Pics, collage, vlog, your choice!

hello there beautiful people!

I am so excited to be doing this challenge again! I have missed blogging so much *crying sad face emoji*
Last year, while doing this challenge, I became way more confident and practiced with blogging and I made some AMAZING and supportive friends.
So I figured I could expect the same things out of it this time as well.

IMG_2259(i just changed my hairs again…LAVENDER<3)

my name is britney

(if your couldn’t tell by my blog name hehe) and it is sooo nice to meet you!
I am 24 and I was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada and I have no plans of leaving any time soon because all my family and all my in-laws live here!
I’m super sarcastic (in a nice way), I WAY over-exaggerate, like, ever day of my entire life and I laugh at my own jokes cause I’m HILARIOUS. I’m sure you’ll think I am too   😉
I really really really love instagram and pinterest
let me follow you!! (it’s not creepy I swear!! hahahaha)

IMG_2261     IMG_2262

I’m the INFJ personality type which means that I am an extroverted introvert which makes ABSOLUTELY little sense I’m sure.

Basically, I love being around people and talking lots, but I also have to chillax and re-charge after a long day with the people.
Which is basically my job. LOTS OF PEOPLE. and I LOVE IT. but then…no.

my job(s)

I am a licensed hairstylist and makeup artist and I LOVE making people feel beautiful in their own skin whether it’s a guest at the salon with a fresh color or cut or a bride on her wedding day ❤
NOW I am also an instructor at the Paul Mitchell School in Las Vegas    🙂
So far it is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done in my life! I have such a passion for helping, inspiring, and teaching others and when a student tells me that I have personally helped them in ANY way it just makes my whole day LIFE.

my passions

When I’m not beautifying people, I’m beautifying THINGS. My main squeeze is sewing but I’ve basically tried every other craft known to man or WILL try every craft known to man.
I am a HUGE NERD. Disney, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel, Unicorns, Fairies…I just love all the magical things.
I love netflix and movies (but not scary ones) and I love reading, though I’m sad to say I haven’t read an actual book for fun in a while…

my family

Family is the most important thing to me in the world.
And my hubby is at the top of that list. I have been married for about three and a half years and it has been the best thing ever. I say that a lot about a lot of things but I SERIOUSLY mean it. Being married to Brodie is the best part of my life. He is so kind and funny and he always makes me feel loved!

So that’s about it for now.
I would LOVE to get to know you more.
Even if we have or haven’t talked much please tell me about yourself! It’ll be nice to check in   🙂
AND please feel free to jump in the challenge at any time!
